We took Squarespace and Wix on a test ride to see if we put these drag and drop website builders head to head, which one will be the best site builder with drag and drop page builder facilities.
With that said, in today's video we're going to be going over the Squarespace vs Wix review to see which one among the four popular best website builders out there will be your choice for building your blog or e-commerce.
Is Squarespace really good enough content management system for starting a blog or website compared to Wix?
For people out there who have a business who have some type of side interest or even have something like a dream to start a YouTube channel as a business, starting a website is definitely going to be helpful. And you definitely want to get invested in making one at some point.
With the emerging of drag and drop website builders, the cost of building a website is relatively low. And if you want a website today, you gonna have to choose one of these builders that’ll make your job a lot easier.
While this website builder is entirely about comparing Squarespace vs Wix, there are also two other website builders with a drag and drop feature where you have to use add-on plugins like Elementor page builder to get those features available when building your website.
WordPress Site Builder-So number four in this list is going to be WordPress
WordPress is a longtime contender, it is one of the greatest website builders out there. Though it is not entirely a drag and drop straight out of the box, WordPress is one of the earliest content management systems that started out as a blogging builder. Over the years, it has developed into something much more than just a blog builder.
WordPress Website Builder Features
So as far as features go, WordPress has an integrated blogging system and it is the best-integrated blogging system available on the market.
And because WordPress also has a plethora of applications to go with it, as a WordPress user, you will like how versatile it is.
- From e-commerce,
- iOS, Android apps
- A membership system and it’s open source which means that it is portable when you want to migrate your legacy custom developed apps running on top of it.
- WordPress also comes with a huge library of open source stuff and a huge community of open source developers.
- There’s also many different extensions and add-ons to choose from when you want to extend the website functionality.
- WordPress also comes as a multilingual CMS straight out of the box.
WordPress Pros And Cons
As far as pros go there are a lot of custom coding options so you really really won’t be restricted with WordPress.
Especially if you’re a little bit more skilled, you will find that WordPress really can be pushed to the limit and may your website anything you want it to be as an ongoing development project.
It’s also very easy to update your content and you won’t really struggle.
When it comes to that part there’s also SEO integration and like I said it has the number one built-in blogging system, and with that, WordPress also enjoy a burgeoning pool of the best development community of all the website builders out there.
Even if the parent WordPress company (automatic) went away, the core software that runs behind WordPress CMS will continue to evolve into infinity, thanks to its open source.
The Cons Of WordPress
As far as cons go, the custom coding options are great but there’s a lot of bad options and many of them have broken extensions and libraries.
There are old and insecure methods to get some of the stuff done and you, unfortunately, have to update all the add-on software regularly just to keep up to date with security patches.
When it comes to your website all in all it can make WordPress pretty complicated for novice users out there. Besides the affordability cost of hosting and possibly storage the price for using the website or setting up a website with WordPress is well very low with free options also possible.
Though I would not recommend going for a FREE hosted WordPress, if you choose to go with it( over at wordpress.com) which other find it more simple and user-friendly website builder.
Over time, as your blog or business, grows, you will notice that there is less freedom to tweak things around or extend the functionality of WordPress which is a necessity when you are growing.
Anyone with long-term goals of turning their blog into a profitable business should seriously consider going for the self-hosted WordPress( over at WordPress.org).
WordPress has a free plan option unlimited bandwidth no ads are accepted for the free plan, giving you anywhere from 3 gigabytes to unlimited storage.
And the premium plans will range from $2.99 to $24.92 a month
Weebly Website Builder
So number 3 on this list is going to be Weebly and some of the features Weebly has are:
- An integrated blog system
- ios and android apps
- And a design blog called promote.
Weebly also has a membership system which is multilingual, offers the ability to put donations on your site and it comes with a basic integrated audio player too.
So some of the things that makes Weebly pretty cool is that it has a lot of great templates you really won’t get bored with the designs that are offered.
Also, many of these templates and newer ones come with the ability to work flawlessly on mobile devices.
Weebly CMS also has, in my opinion, the easiest to use interface out of all the website builders out there.
What makes the interface so easy is that it uses a simple drag-and-drop system that is very responsive and even has things such as the windows moving right out the way as you’re editing.
There’s a lot of customization options available inside Weebly too. Such as adjusting longitude and latitude on your maps adjusting colors, images and adding whatever type of media you really want.
It also has an app store, unlike many popular builders out there, unfortunately, there’s no start from scratch system and there’s really not a lot of options for custom coding
As far as prices go, there is a free plan that offers 500 megabytes of storage and you get unlimited bandwidth and no matter which plan you choose the premium plans start from as little as $8 to $59 a month and you get a free domain with an annual purchase.
There’s a limited storage for all premium plans and there are no ads except for the free plan you also get e-commerce and 24/7 technical support.
Wix Website Builder
So number two once again is going to be Wix, and Wix is by far one of my favorite website builders out there. And many people in the world’s favorite website builders some of the features that come with Wix are:
- A blogging System.
- iOS and Android apps
- And it’s built for high-resolution devices.
- There is also a newsletter, and membership system built inside this site builder.
And the best for anyone who wants a start from scratch system out there. Some of the really good things about Wix is that it comes with so many designs and templates.
And because of all the features and things that are packed into Wix site builder, it really is flexible to design a site of any person’s interest.
One of the features that Wix website builder brings, is really how it is known for its integrated animations capabilities which can really make someone’s website pop.
There are also hundreds of apps to choose from when making your website with Wix CMS system.
Now on a side note, say anyone using Wix better makes sure they pick a template they really like because while you can edit and change a design, you won’t be able to change it once you pick a template.
You’re going to have to stick with it or you’re going to have to start an entirely new site and there’s no source code option too.
Wix complexity comes from the core design where there are so many features in its compact design. This in itself can be a blessing as well as a curse as so much stuff in Wix, can really be a mess especially for novice users out there.
And my personal opinion is, while Wix offers so many features and offers so many templates in beautiful designs I think that most of these designs are not really as professional-looking as some of the other options on this list.
As far as prices go, there’s a free plan and then premium plans which range from $5 to $30 (thirty dollars ) a month.
With that, you get from one gig to unlimited bandwidth and you get from 500 megabytes to 20 gigabytes of storage.
Premium also comes with a free domain on all but the lowest tier plan and there are no ads except for the lowest plan.
Some of the key features in the premium plans involve e-commerce and 24/7 support.
Squarespace Website Builder
So number one on this list and possibly favorite website builder out there is going to be Squarespace.
Some of the features that Squarespace offer are:
- Blogging system
- iOS and Android apps
- Integrated donations
- And a beautiful music player
With Squarespace, every single template is designed for high-resolution devices and these templates are all mobile ready.
These templates are great at every level of design as each one has a professionally designed UI for members and while there are not a lot of options each option is of the highest quality.
There are custom photo cropping options and unlike the drag and drop system, Squarespace uses the content block system which is used for adding elements.
There are many pre-designed blocks such as menu options page designs and of course many different add-ons.
Squarespace is in my opinion and many as the most polished of any builder out there.
Squarespace site builder also has an easy billing system that’s month-to-month or by year.
If security is of paramount, which I would assume it is, Squarespace takes the privacy of its visitors and its users very seriously.
And they do not release any of that personal info or site data to third-party companies which you really have to watch out when it comes to website builders.
Full packaged website services such as GoDaddy or FatCow are among site builders who are susceptible to exchanging data with third parties.
As far as pricing goes, there are no free membership options with Squarespace site builder. However, you can sign up for a trial period and if you decide not to go with a paid plan you sort or revert to a free membership.
The prices range from $12 to $26 a month and with that you get:
- 20 Website pages,
- Galleries and blogs or unlimited content and storage depending on your option.
- You also get a limited bandwidth on all the plans
- A free custom domain and there are no ads.
- There is SSL security provided throughout the website no matter which plan you choose
- Squarespace also offers 24/7 support,
- e-commerce and online store plans that range from twenty-six dollars to forty-six dollars a month that give you some extra e-commerce stuff.
For those who are very business oriented, Squarespace site builder offers an all in one solution at an affordable price and less headache.
And there you have it! This list of the best website builders out there for 2019 and most likely beyond, is what every online business needs to start promoting their brand online.
Needless to say that there are quite a few options out there in the world but I think that no matter what your interest or your goal is, for building a website, any one of these options will definitely suit that need.
