Self promotion is more than…
Self promotion is more than just getting someone to link to you. It’s more than just sending a friendly email saying, ‘hey, I like your site, wanna do a link trade?” It’s a form of self-expression, if done right.
Getting involved in your blogging community is more powerful than a little link trade email. Visiting others’ sites and commenting on their posts, and getting in that top commentator’s spot is also a handy way of being a part of the community. Some do contests to boost reader participation. These are done in hopes that we’ll all come out of “lurker” status and actually become a part of the conversation at hand.
So, get out there and subscribe to someone else’s feed. Comment on something. Or, click on one of their ads. This is all done in little time and gives back to the blogging community. If you’ve really enjoyed their site, or a particular post, “buy them a beer or coffee”. It takes little effort and shows them that you care about what they have to say. You can throw a dollar someone’s way for a job well done. Chances are, they will very much appreciate the gesture, and may link to you in return.
I’d fathom a guess that a nifty plugin will emerge for WordPress, where people can list the top five people that bought them a beer. That would be a nice addition to the top commentators spot on someone’s blog. Especially if that blog generates a lot of traffic.
What is self promotion to you?

I think I’m still in the baby stages of self promotion. I’m not keen myself on social networking sites. I have so little time as it is. So, I have a handful of blogs I just really LOVE and I try to loyally make comments and spread the word. I can only hope that as time passes that those blogs will reciprocate and I will grow some solid, organic traffic.
Just found your blog through successful-blog and from what I’ve read so far, I have to say i like it!
self-promotion, well, to me, it’s something rather natural, I invest a lot of time reading other blogs, commenting and getting involved in community sites and social networking sites, so it’s kinda like my own way of promoting myself. without actually “working hard” to promote myself, of course a lot of time is needed to do that, but I’m enjoying it every step of the way. I don’t like over-self-promoting anyway, and I don’t think about self-promotion really, I just enjoy what i do, so I usually try to add value and make people think (and it’s the reason I just subscribed to your feed, I like the writing, the topics, the style)
Keep it up!
Thanks you guys, that rocks that you find my content of value, that makes my day. I have several posts scheduled for throughout the week, just because I write when I get inspired. But, as always, please feel free to let me know if there is something that you think I should cover. I’m open to writing great details about the things that I know well.
Hi! I found your site through Angie at Suncoast Scribe and I’m so glad she mentioned your blog!
I’m new and have been posting comments on blogs of interest to me without really knowing what I’m doing.
Angie, bless her heart, is really trying to help me along.
I am more than happy to buy anyone a beer or a cup of coffee because I LOVE writing comments…even if they’re of little value. : )
Your blog is a wealth of information for me, so I’m going to add you to my blogroll if that’s okay.
Thanks again to both you and Angie!
Thanks pfunk, I’m glad that you are enjoying what I have to say….that means the most to me as a blogger. Feel free to add me to your blogroll and I’ll be over at your site soon to check it out

So true..
I also agree with getting involved
Is the best way to promote your blog
Thanks Jim, and it’s so true, too. It’s very easy to just get involved and you help build a community while you’re at it.
