Day Three: Beginning Blogging

By now you should have a nifty theme all worked out for your blog and you’re ready and rarin’ to get started.

The blogosphere is all about content, in case you haven’t heard. All of the most successful bloggers will tell you that content is king. This is true, but let’s rephrase that, good content is king. What that means is that you have to put something out there that will be of value to other people.

Writing in your own voice is a good way for others to listen to what you have to say and know your personality. It would be weird if I started publishing stories about country music, because I don’t like that genre and it’s not in my personality to write about stuff I don’t care about.

Generating content should come easy if your blogging subject is something that you’re passionate about. I could write for days and days about music (and I do), but that’s because it’s a subject that doesn’t bore me. My readers come and visit because it’s a subject that doesn’t bore them. Or, maybe they like the personality that I infuse into my posts. What is RobertaFerguson.com without Roberta, it might as well be a hole in space because no one has the same opinions I do or the same personality.

    Agree agree agree.

Let your own voice shine through to your blog. Anyone can publish a newsletter online these days, but a blog is a sort of glorified OpEd section paired with a private journal. It is a lovely and unique mix of the writer’s inner aspects.

I totally agree, Angie. This is your voice. I speak in Roberta-ese, it lets my personality show through. I not only report facts, but I throw a little bit of myself in there too.
