Day Two: Beginning blogging

Okay, you’ve made it this far. I know it’s killing you to want to get right in there and post something. Hang on just a second. You’ve probably still got that default theme going. I know that people say content is king and you should just start posting, because that’s what matters, but is that really how it goes?

No.

I mean, sure it is, to some extent. Do you think in real life, people aren’t looking at you while you’re speaking or they’re closing their eyes and trying to hear what you have to say. Think of it like dating. If you find someone attractive, your chances of talking to them are a lot better.

You can check a few of these sites out for some great themes. I prefer rather clean looking themes that aren’t garbaged up with tons of stuff you can’t (or don’t know how to) use. (ummmm…widgets?)

I used Cutline for the longest time on my music blog. I loved it. It was so simple to edit and if I can do it, so can you.

The theme you choose will give your blog a personality. It will say something about you.

When you do find that perfect theme, upload it to your server to your yourdomainname.com/wp-content/themes folder. Now login to the Admin (yourdomainname.com/wp-admin) area of WordPress and click on Presentation. You will see the default theme as well as the theme you just uploaded. Click on the image of your theme and that will make it active.

Now, get to posting! Content is next! Looking forward to plugins? That’s coming up, too.

Clean themes are the way to go. As your blog loaded in my browser, I signed a cleansing sigh and my eyes focused. It was such a nice change after spending time this morning reading some of my friends’ cluttered, seizure-inducing-flashing-ads filled sites.

Thanks Angie, I appreciate the good feedback. I really like this theme alot. It’s very easy on the eyes and lends itself nicely to actually reading the content.

I really like that Cutline theme. I might have to consider it for the new blog I’m going to start.

I like Angie’s theme too; very clean.

Good work as always, Roberta. Keep ‘em coming. :)

    Donovan,
I liked Cutline for the longest time, it’s very nifty and easy to use. I actually still have it on the server, in case I decide to go back to it. I just headed over to Angie’s page, definitely a very nice, neat theme. It was easy to read, I think I’ll subscribe.

    Thanks for the kudos :)
