I would recommend Wordpress even for those people that choose to go the free route.  All you have to do is create an account at WordPress.com and you can get your own blog hosted on their servers for free.

They even will redirect your own domain name to your Wordpress account for $10 annually.

Once you are ready to host your blog on our own hosting account, you can simply export all your users, posts, and comments, and upload them to your site.</description>
